I know what my opinion is on buying a multimeter. I have worked with all ranges of multimeter from the cheapest to near the top end range. Let us know your experiences. What make and model do you use and why ?
I know it is tempting to buy the latest and greatest tool, but a multimeter doesn't need to do all that much. I have 2, an old Beckman and a new Chinese model and there isn't all that much difference and both do the job equally well.
I have a Craftsmen multimeter with auto ranging and a temperature sensor.
I also have a Harbor freight multimeter with the ability to test transistors.
So they both have something unique.
They both work great.
Something I need that will be useful for me is a special type of meter that measures peak motor amperage. I don't think normal multimeters do that from what I was told.
Harbor Freight = pure crap ! [DO NOT BUY]
The best handheld DMMs are from Fluke, with Keysight also being good.
Please watch this video to learn more about DMMs and what to watch out for :

I also recommend watching this video for the better DMMs on the marketplace :

If it works, it's a Fluke! Or maybe, It's a Fluke if it works!
Just kidding. They're great meters.
Adding this from the other thread for completeness.
In case you want to compare multi-meters :
Them Keysight meters are very impressive and I like the look of the software.
I own both ! The Keysight U1233A which is great for quick measurements , the Fluke 289 for data logging, then the Agilent rack DMM for the accurate stuff !

I think that the Keysight is almost the same as the Fluke 115 but the 115 is a little more accurate, but the Keysight has a data link.
Hello Steven,
Yep they really are the business. High end stuff.
I really like the computer compatibly.
The problem is every time you upload a list like this I spend half the day drooling over it.
