just advise regarding the 3D scan. you can do a few different site to scan, after scan complete then use the RE software to do the match, edit, align etc.

then use 3D CAD software to convert the modeling. after convert complete modeling then you can do any changes or modified the features.

Hi Andrew, yes i used the iPad app to scan the existing arm first. Then by saving a STL and step file i was able to bring it into Fusion 360 without need for scaling the scanned file. The following step was to start with creating planes on the bigger surfaces, so that i could extract outer lines to form parts of the plate work. Then do this a few times on all the different faces in order to create a full assembly of plate work. Making sure during this process to keep in mind what will be welded first on the workflow will determine where bends and notching will be allocated. The JIG is dependant on this assembly and it has to be right....From here on onwards we created the required laser cutting DXF profiles for laser cutting and final assembly. actually your working and modeling should be no problems. Cause I see your scan data have missing some view, then I just give some ideas and advise to collect more scan data in different view like back, bottom, other side, angles. then your come out the data will more better and reliable.

if I not mistaken you are using the method similar like photogrammetry.

anyway I just sharing the information and my experience and also thanks your sharing info. we can learn something different from each other.....

Hi Robert,

Could you elaborate on your scanning hardware setup. Am I correct that you used just your iPad Pro and an iPad scanning app? Could you tell me which app please and did you have any additional scanning hardware like the Structure Sensor? Please advise.
