in my opinion, I have worked in different industries and I have learned several programs due to my jobs, such as ProE, Inventor, Solidworks, Catia, Alias... I learn as I go. among these programs I have experimented, I know Solidwork is better in complex design than Creo ProE. Inventor is very similar to Solidworks but sucks in assembly mode than Solidworks. As for Catia, I know that this partiular program is very popular in aviation industry. It has class A surfacing that they need for aerodynamics same as Alias has class A surfacing design than Solidworks.
I think it depends on the industry your are in. Solidworks is more for mechanical design.

Solidworks is widely used in various industrial companies due to its user-friendly interface, robust features, and versatility in creating detailed designs. On the other hand, Catia's fame stems from its advanced capabilities, especially in complex surface modeling and aerospace industries. Both tools have their strengths, making them popular choices depending on specific project requirements and industries.

This is a very good discussion. I have created a video in 2019 regarding this on my channel and I got quite a lot of dislikes as I stated that CATIA offers a more complex workflow. The discussion back then was also based on amount of users that use SolidWorks compared to CATIA, as well as the revenues of those companies.

Overall there are more companies using SolidWorks as it is the more affordable CAD solution. They are both owned by Dassault Systèmes, which means that they are well-integrated with other Dassault products, such as ENOVIA and DELMIA, during the last years I have seen a trend, where Dassault is trying to merge both SolidWorks and CATIA within the same platform - 3D Experience.

Overall companies that use CATIA are from the following domain fields (aerospace and defense, automotive and marine). SolidWorks is also used in these domains, but CATIA is often preferred because it is more powerful and versatile.

For me, I prefer the SolidWorks UI more as it is more friendlier, but if you compare Features of both software solution regarding Surface Design , Molding Tools or Reverse Engineering workflow, then CATIA is by far the better option.
